Apple’s AirPods Max 2 headphones are still $150 off — for now

One of the best deals this ongoing Prime Day has been on Apple’s latest flagship headphones. The AirPods Max 2 are still available for a heavily discounted price of $399 ($150 off) at Walmart, even though they sold out at Amazon.

Since the Amazon deal kicked and Walmart is out of stock on one of the Max 2’s five colors, it seems this deal is not long for this world. Even discounted to $399 the AirPods Max 2 are still pretty expensive, but it’s a much better price for some fancy headphones. The sequel version of the AirPods Max look the same as the original, but they offer better sound and upgraded internals. Apple’s noise cancellation is now competitive with the best offerings from Sony and Bose. The tradeoffs are, of course, that high price (especially if you’re cross-shopping its competition that’s also on sale), the heavy build that can cause fatigue, a lack of a proper power button, and an unorthodox “case” that doesn’t offer full protection.

While the AirPods Max 2 definitely have their shortcomings, they’re still a quality pair of headphones that offer unique syling and colors. If their clamping force and weight work well for you then you’re treated to high quality audio that doesn’t get boomy with bass — you can actually hear those low tones. And they have some of Apple’s latest software features, like adaptive audio, conversation awareness, and live translation.

The last-gen AirPods Max (both the Lightning and USB-C versions) occasionally saw some great discounts, but it wasn’t always this good.
